Welcome to the Cubs No-Hit Streak Contest
The @CubsNHS_Bot has been the product of my ongoing effort to automate anything repetitive or tedious that the original @CubsNoHitStreak account did previously: all of the boring tedium, with none of that pesky personality. This No-Hit Streak Contest is the latest such endeavor.

The idea is pretty simple: guess which Cubs batter will break-up their opponent's no-hitter and which inning that'll occur to score points. Most points wins. In this instance when you play stupid games, you might actually win a pretty cool prize.

Consider this a trial run. We'll run the first contest for the entire month of August 2022 and see how it goes. If it goes well, maybe we'll do a full season of it. Time will tell.

In the meantime, let's dive into the particulars.

Scoring
Points are tracked automatically. A "Grand Slam" of 4 points is possible each game:
  • 2 points for correctly guessing which batter gets the Cubs' first hit of the game
  • 1 point for correctly guessing which inning the Cubs get their first hit of the game
  • 1 bonus point for correctly guessing both

Rules / Additional Info
The whole idea of this is to make the best of an otherwise less-than-stellar year for our beloved Cubs. But, some rules and clarifications are warranted.
  • Protected Twitter accounts can't participate because The Bot won't be able to see your reply.
  • Twitter accounts that have submitted guesses will appear on the leaderboard on this page. If you don't want that to happen, don't participate.
  • Picks must be submitted prior to the first pitch and are limited to batters in the announced lineup.
  • You can change your pick by simply sending a new reply. This, too, needs to be submitted before the first pitch and is limited to batters in the announced lineup. Just make sure it's in the same thread as the lineup tweet so The Bot can see it.
  • The Bot will reply to you within a minute or two confirming whether or not it was successful in recording your pick.
  • This contest, site, and The Bot are not affiliated with Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, or the Chicago Cubs.
  • Don't be a dick. I will ban people if I have to.

Determining the Winner
  • The contestant with the most points at the end of the contest will be declared the winner.
  • Points are tracked automatically. The leaderboard on this page shows current standings.
  • Tiebreakers, in order of precedence:
    1. Number of "Grand Slams" (times where both the batter and inning were guessed correctly)
    2. Times the batter was guessed correctly
    3. Times the inning was guessed correctly
    4. Number of games where a guess was submitted
  • The contest will run for the entire month of August 2022.
  • The winner will be notified via direct message on Twitter by the @CubsNHS_Bot account on or about September 1st, 2022. I will, of course, need your address to send you your prize.

Prize
The winner will receive a copy of 100 Things Cubs Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die: Updated World Series Edition by Jimmy Greenfield.

Amazon's description of the book:
There's never been a better time to be a Cubs fan, and this lively, detailed book explores the personalities, events, and facts every fan should know. More than a look at the century-long wait leading up to the team's unforgettable 2016 World Series win, the book contains crucial information for Cubs faithful, such as important dates, player nicknames, memorable moments, and outstanding achievements by singular players. This guide to all things Cubs also includes a list of must-do Cubs-related activities, which include taking in Wrigley Field, traveling to Arizona for spring training, and sipping beers at the best Cubs bars around the country. This updated World Series edition features a new generation of Cubs stars who brought the championship back home to Chicago at last, including manager Joe Maddon, sluggers Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, and more.
SPOILER: The Streak might be "thing" #87 in this book, but it's undoubtedly #1 in every Cubs fan's heart. 💙

I should note that the author has nothing to do with this site, The Bot, or this contest. He was the creator of the @CubsNoHitStreak account, so is obviously a big inspiration for The Bot and this contest. I continue to thank him for bringing a bit of joy to being a Cubs fan, through thick and thin.
