To date, only Anna and I know what we're naming the new little guy. His older siblings don't have a clue.
The middle name was revealed quite a long time ago, actually. Back when we were discussing names for Katelyn, we decided that we'd use my dad's dad's first name as the middle name if it was a boy, or Anna's mom's mom's first name as the middle name if it was a girl. True to our word, Katelyn's middle name is Arlena after Anna's maternal grandmother. Also true to our word, this little guy's middle name will be Charles, after my paternal grandfather.
What about the first name? Sorry; I'm not revealing that just yet.
What I am revealing are all 31 names that Anna and I considered (one of these is the one that we picked out):
Aiden
Alexander
Beau
Braden
Brendan
Caleb
Colin
Dominic
Donovan
Douglas
Dylan
Gabriel
Gavin
Ian
Isaac
Landon
Logan
Lucas
Matthew
Nicholas
Noah
Nolan
Owen
Quinton
Raymond
Samuel
Thomas
Trevor
Vincent
Wesley
William
There are a couple of these that I'd like to single out:
William: When we were discussing names for Katelyn, we were thinking of using either Jillian for a girl or William for a boy (Will or Jill). Obviously we didn't use Jill. How does that bode for Will?
Samuel: My dad discovered a couple of years ago that my great-great-great grandfather was named Jacob. One of his sons was Andrew. Jacob and Andrew (my sons) were named without us knowing that. Oddly enough, one of Andrew's sons was Samuel and Samuel is a name we were considering for Katelyn. As you'll notice, that's one of the 31 above.
There really isn't a rhyme or reason to any of the others; they just stood out to us for one reason or another.
Which do you think we picked? Each of our kids names so far has come with a built-in short form: Jacob/Jake, Andrew/Drew, Katelyn/Kate. Do you think we did the same this time?
