Quite frankly, I'm relieved. I really didn't want to believe that the country I love couldn't vote for a man just because of the color of his skin. I really didn't want to believe that people actually liked the idea of Sarah Palin being a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Luckily I won't need to. McCain's concession speech was fantastic, although the reaction of his supporters was disappointing, but not entirely surprising. I think some Republicans will never support Obama, similar to how some Democrats couldn't support Bush. My hope is that Obama makes it possible for them to do that, that he "reaches across the aisle." The partisanship in Washington has prevented most Presidents from doing that, so we'll see. I'm posting this before Obama's speech at a very packed Grant Park in Chicago. Hopefully he uses that line about how "there's not a liberal America [or] a conservative America - there's the United States of America." |
