I don't like Easter. It's a bullshit holiday. It is supposed to be about a miracle that happened 2,000 years ago. What the hell do pastels, candy, fluffy bunnies and other dopey-smiley crap like that have to do with Christ rising from the dead? If ANYONE can explain this to me, please feel free. On top of it being around my truly favorite holiday, the Cubs, in true Game-6-of-the-NLCS fashion, blew a lead in the 8th inning. Mr. Cardinal Andy Fales on 13 here in Des Moines, showed only the Braves scoring in that inning. Not much else, except for, "with the Cubs having to get it done in the 9th..." I can't say I'm surprised that he didn't mention Sergio Mitre. In the youngster's third major league start, he pitched 7 2/3, gave up 5 hits, 2 ER, 1 BB, and 3 SO. That ain't bad by any stretch. One of the runs came on a wild pitch; the other was a single he gave up in the 8th. The bullpen proceeded to walk the next three batters. In his first ML start, (also against the Braves) on July 22, 2003, he pitched 3 2/3, gave up 10 hits, 8 ER, 3 BB, no SO and a home run. That's quite the improvement! I'm still the true scrooge of Easter. I hate pastels. |
