I've more-or-less landed a new job with Ingram Entertainment in West Des Moines. Two of Anna's sisters currently work there while her only other sister worked there at one time. I'll be making quite a bit more money, plus I'm getting a very nice benefits package. I'll be answering phones, taking orders, etc. I know fully well that I won't enjoy the work as much as I do now here at IoWeb. That makes this very bittersweet for me. I'll genuinely miss building websites for a living. I find it to be a LOT of fun. Last night, I went to town on my computer. My boss loaned me what we both thought was a 40 GB hard drive; turned out to only be 10. So, I put it in my computer, moved everything that I wanted to keep (minus my huge MP3 collection) and reformatted my C drive. I shit-canned the vast majority of my MP3's, which I had created from my CD collection. Their existence was entirely legal. But, it's a moot point now; they're gone. They took up approximately 27 GB, or about 1/4-1/3 of my hard drive and I never used them. That's a LOT of wasted space! Occasionally, I'd put one of them online for downloading, but I've decided to stop that. The RIAA lawsuits aren't the reason for me doing this. If the hard drive was a 40 GB, I would still have all the MP3's. I wouldn't have thought twice about it, in fact. I don't post enough music to get a lawsuit. If they got down to me, they'd have several million people to sue. It takes too much time to post MP3's, keep them current with the news, etc. I don't get anything out of it, so why bother? I will, however, keep up with the online MP3 collection so that people still have a place to look up all kinds of drum corps MP3's. I can't completely shut down the most-hit part of my website! In fact, I'm thinking about expanding the whole idea of the online MP3 collection. I think it would be kinda neat for people to be able to submit URL's, or notify me of dead links (although, I've already got an automated system in place to check for that). I'm also mildly looking into starting a Message Board, but I don't think I have enough visitors or a unique crowd to make it worth-while. The winds of change are here, I guess. |
