In the last couple of days, I've made some updates to things that I have yet to launch, all for entirely different reasons. This blog is one of those items. Before making the changes I made last night, I didn't want to launch the blog because once you navigated your way back a month, that's the only month that would appear off to the right there. Well, I fixed that. Then, I added the test entries with test dates on them: 11/02/03, 12/02/03, and 12/02/04. This would allow me to test what this did when there were entries outside of a two month range. I changed it so that if there are entries before the first month listed, it would provide a way to get back to the last entry before the first listed month. I then applied the same logic to get to the first entry after the last listed month. Trust me, it's far easier to understand when used in practice! Another reason I haven't launched this is that I want to allow comments per blog entry. I had already built the MySQL table for that and figured out how it would all work, but that's about it. I added the first step to getting the comments working last night as well, by including a count of comments per blog entry at the bottom of each blog entry. I plan on having it where if there aren't any, you can click on "0 Comments" to add a comment. After there are some comments for an entry, the bottom will not only tell you how many, but provide you with two links, something like "2 Comments: Read; Add a Comment". We'll see what works best. I very seldom stick with my first idea on things; I generally come up with something that is a lot more logical and easier-to-use. Also, I'm in the process of converting my pics system to a MySQL database. I plan on having it function similarly to how the blog does, in that there will be a two-month calendar off to the right that will have all the different dates that pictures were taken as clickable numbers. No more image counts per day, however. I would also like to have a « Previous | Next » system to make browsing through the pictures a lot quicker and easier. In fact, I should add that to the blog... Well, enough chitter-chatter. I'm eating my lunch at work and really should stop typing so that I can eat, and thereby get back to work. I used "thereby." I'm such a geek. |
