Submitted by Brent Butler How depressing. I even feel sick. The 2003 Cubs have taken a page from their 1984 counterparts' playbook and, needing only one more victory to get into the World Series for the first time since 1945, lost three straight and will go home to watch the World Series. My congratulations to the Florida Marlins. No one cares. Speaking of which, FOX and MLB can join Cubs fans in shedding tears. The 75% of baseball viewers for this postseason that were following and hoping for the Cubs will probably snub the World Series. I know I will. Who could care less about the Florida Marlins playing either the Yankees or the Red Sox? Nothing like a long-term, heated rivalry for the World Series, huh? I think the only way this could get worse is if the Yankees not only beat Boston tomorrow, but swept the Marlins. Woo-hoo, Championship #way-the-hell-to-many for the Spankees. Baseball as a sport needs that just as much as another corked bat incident, more steroid rumors, or another players' strike. Now that the Cubs are done, I can follow the NFL powerhouse Chicago Bears! Oh yeah. They're 1-4. The Cubs almost scored as many runs in their first 4 games with the Marlins as the Bears have scored the last 2-3 games. *sigh* How long until spring training? So very, very depressing.... |
