I don't think I've ever been happier. Sunday was my 21st birthday. And, no, I didn't celebrate it like most people do: not one drop of alcohol was consumed. I've never had a taste for the stuff. I don't see the need to change that now. I'm thrilled I was 100% sober come about 9:50-ish last night.
What a great day. For the first time since 1908, we Chicago Cub fans were able to celebrate a victorious post-season series. 4+ generations of Cub fans have not been able to watch their team clinch a post-season series. That's a LONG time. I got to watch it happen on my birthday.
What a great day.
Since the game ended, I've been hearing a great deal of talk about how the Cubs will just manhandle the Marlins. I have my doubts. They weren't the hottest team in baseball for the last four months of the season for no reason. However, the Cubs won 4 of the 6 games against them this year. Plus, the Cubs have home field advantage. You've got to like their chances. It's not too terribly unlikely that the Cubs could pitch Wood and Prior each twice during the series, should they be needed. Zambrano is listed on the Cubs website as Tuesday's starter, however. That one surprised me! I'm hoping that changes, no offense to Carlos. I'd much rather see Prior pitch.
Later today, I will be sending a joke, but I wanted to share my thoughts on just how great of day yesterday was. Unfortunately, it has to be followed by a Monday. Who could ever like Monday?

How To Survive Being a Hormone Hostage
Every "hormone hostage" knows that there are days in the month when all a man has to do is open his mouth and he takes his life in his hands. This is a handy guide that should be as common as a driver's license in the wallet of every husband, boyfriend, or male child.
DANGEROUS: What's for dinner? SAFER: Can I help you with dinner? SAFEST: Where would you like to go for dinner?
DANGEROUS: Why are you so worked up? SAFER: Could we be over-reacting? SAFEST: Here's fifty dollars.
DANGEROUS: Are you wearing that?!? SAFER: Gee, you look good in brown. SAFEST: Wow! Look at you!
DANGEROUS: Should you be eating that? SAFER: You know, there are a lot of apples left. SAFEST: Can I get you a glass of wine with that?
DANGEROUS: What did you do all day? SAFER: I hope you didn't overdo it today. SAFEST: I've always loved you in that robe.

Cubs Clinch NLCS Spot
I could get REALLY used to putting this "Cubs Clinch" stories on here. Last night, the Cubs did something that no Cub team has done since 1908: they won a post-season series. No Cub team has ever won the NLCS. Before last night, no Cub team had ever one an NLDS. Why? They didn't exist back in 1908. The series the Cubs did win that year was the grand daddy of them all: The World Series.
I worry about the Marlins. I've heard stories saying that the Cubs ought to have no problem with them. I guess the theory is that if the Cubs can beat the team with the best record in the National League, why would they have trouble with the Wild Card team? Well, the same reason the Giants could only beat them once. The same reason the Marlins had the best record in baseball the last four months of the season. They aren't a fluke. They're good. That's why I worry.
I find myself with the same feeling I had after the Cubs clinched the NL Central: I hope this isn't it. I really fear that. Last night was a HUGE step for the Cubs. I just hope it isn't the only step. This season has already been special, but I'd like to see the Cubs do their best against the Marlins. I'll hope for the best. After all, the Cubs went 4-2 against them this season. That too, is no fluke.
Outside of that Dontrelle Willis kid, I know nothing about the Marlins pitching staff. The rumors I've heard is that the Marlins are built similarly to the Cubs: good young pitching, good veteran fielders. Yet again, that scares me a little bit.
Zambrano is getting the Game 1 start. I assume he will be followed by Prior, then possibly Clement, Wood, then Zambrano again. That would make it so that Prior and Wood could each have two starts, if one of them pitched on 3 days rest. In that light, I feel sorry for them fishies from Miami, especially after how Wood pitched the Braves and how Prior pitched the second half of the season.
