Submitted by Brent Butler Quite obviously, today marks the one-year anniversary of a day which no one will ever forget: Tuesday, September 11, 2001. There are hundreds of other web sites, TV shows, documentaries, and news stories somewhere else where you can read, see, and hear what all happened that day in meticulous detail, so I won't provide you with the same information. Instead, I encourage you to participate in whatever remembrance service that may be happening in your area today. Here in Des Moines, one is being put on by the Des Moines Police and Fire Departments, along with the Iowa National Guard, called Standing Tall 2002. Standing Tall 2002 will happen at 7:30 PM at Sec Taylor Stadium. It will include music, a flyover by the Iowa Air National Guard 132nd Fighter Wing and fireworks. Officers, firefighters and veterans from across the state will march in a parade from the Capitol to Sec Taylor Stadium. The parade begins at 6:00 PM. Also, I have put mp3s on my site (brentbutler.com) that I feel put in music what cannot be put into words: what all has happened in the past year. I really recommend the one from "Gladiator." They include the following: - Theme from "Born on the Fourth of July" by John Williams - Theme from "JFK" by John Williams - "Elysium / Honor Him / Now We Are Free" from Gladiator by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard - "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel Thanks for your time. Jokes will continue tomorrow. Sincerely, Brent Butler |
