A fella named Andrew wrote to FuckedCompany.com and told his story about Veritas -- a backup software company. All I want to know is: did AOL buy Veritas, too? Andrew had a tech support question about the software after he bought it and paid for it. After 10 minutes on the phone he got a live person. The live support person told him that because he paid for the software he would have to buy a support contract for it. "Don't I have 60 days of free support?" "No. You only get free support if you're using the free, fully- functional download from our website. If you purchase the product, you have to buy a service contract to get support." "Let me get this straight. If I DON'T give you any money and DON'T buy your product, I can call support EVERY DAY for TWO MONTHS." "Correct." "But if I give you a decent chunk of change I NOW have to give you EVEN MORE MONEY in order to get the same support I could have gotten for free???" "That's correct." Andrew said he was going to call from another phone and pretend to be someone else with a free evaluation copy so he could get free support for the next two months. |
